8 Days/7 Nights

Our team of tourism experts and travelers created this trip to share their thorough knowledge of Greece and its beauty with you

DAY 1 – SATURDAY (Flight to Athens and Ferry to Aegina)

Our private tour guide welcome you upon your arrival at the airport of Athens, and will accompany you all the way to your hotel in Agia Marina, Aegina. We will be transferred to the port of Piraeus in our private luxury bus, where we will take the next boat to Aegina. The boat trip from Piraeus to Aegina is about 90 minutes. Arrival and check in at Kavos Bay Hotel. Early evening drinks and welcome dinner will be served, on the hotel’s restaurant terrace, next to the sea. An after dinner mini presentation will follow, for our cooking lessons of each day.

DAY 2 – SUNDAY (1st Cooking Lesson)

After breakfast, we will start our walking tour in the village of Agia Marina. We will discover wonderful shops, cafes and tavernas, the sandy beach, the port with the fishing boats and the fishermen offering us to buy fresh caught fish of the day. The tour continues in the local market where we will choose and select our fresh ingredients for our first cooking lesson. Afternoon is free for individual activities. Οur first cooking class begins at 17:30, at the hotel’s restaurant terrace. We will all together prepare our delicious dinner for that evening. The cooking lesson will include preparation of starters, salad, main course, fruit salad or pastry. Fine local wines will be served with all our meals.

DAY 3 – MONDAY (Tour Aegina Town – Fish market – 2 nd Cooking Lesson)

After breakfast we will take the bus to Aegina town where we will see beautiful neoclassical buildings, walk in the small winding back streets with the beautiful boutique shops and visit the wonderfully atmospheric fish market; one of Aegina’s treasures. Near it are old Greek-style kafenio and fish tavernas. We will buy fresh fish and octopus for our fish barbecue dinner. After our shopping, we will enjoy chilled “ouzo” and “fish meze” in one of the old Greek-style kafenio next to the fish market. The rest of the day is free to do as you please. We meet at the hotel at 17:30, to prepare and enjoy a fish barbecue the Greek way.

DAY 4 – TUESDAY (Monastery of St. Nektarios – Free Day – 3rd Cooking Lesson)

Early breakfast and a 15-minute bus ride to the monastery of Agios Nektarios. A massive, recently-built church sits up on a hill in the inland area known as Kontos, in the centre of Island, between Aegina Town and Agia Marina. Built for the most recent Greek Orthodox saint – “Agios Nektarios” – large numbers of people visit it every year, many of them seeking help from this miracle-working saint, who died in 1920. Near the church is a complex of buildings which include chapels, a store selling icons, holy oil, candles, postcards and the like, the old house in which the holy man lived, and the monastery inhabited by a small community of nuns who tend to the spiritual needs of those who come to seek solace and healing. After our visit to the monastery we will enjoy an extraordinary hike to the Medieval Village of Paleachora. On a steep hill, adjacent to the church and monastery of Agios Nektarios is located Aegina’s version of “Mystras – Paleachora”, which means literally, “Old Town”, and which was for a millennium (9th century – early 19th century AD) the island capital. The setting itself is magnificent, especially in spring, when all vegetation is a brilliant green both on the hill and in the valley below, seen in panoramic splendor from high above. All that remains of this hill village with its castle are its churches, rumored to number 365 – one for every day of the year – though this figure is unsupported by research. Of the 70 churches whose existences on the hill are confirmed, 33 churches remain and are open to visitors. Five have been restored and are in good condition, though most remain in great need of restoration. At the end of our adventure we will take the bus back to Agia Marina. We will meet at 17:30 for our cooking lesson and to prepare a hearty dinner for all of us to enjoy.

DAY 5 – WEDNESDAY (Temple of Aphea – Free Day – 4th Cooking Lesson)

Aphea Temple and Museum – Monument of great archaeological interest. The Temple of Aphaia is arguably the jewel in the crown of Aegina Island. It is a stunning example of ancient architecture set in a beautiful natural forested area with sensational views across the island to the sea. We will have an early breakfast and a morning visit to the Temple of Aphea. After the Temple, we will walk the path to Agia Marina, where we will enjoy a free day for swimming, shopping or just hanging around. We will meet at 17:30 hrs. at Kavos Bay, to have our final cooking lesson and to prepare for a magnificent farewell dinner party, to celebrate our last night in Aegina. Traditional Greek music and dancing will highlight our evening.

DAY 6 – THURSDAY (Ferry back to Athens – Monastiraki – Special Souvlaki Dinner)

After breakfast we will sail back to Athens where our private bus waits at the port of Piraeus, to transfer us to our hotel in Plaka. After check in, we will gather at the reception to walk to Monastiraki and Plaka (Athens old town center). We will spend the afternoon shopping and enjoying the beauty of Athens. We will sit to enjoy an early dinner at one of the best – “old fashion” – souvlaki joints of Athens. Amazing food and cold beer will be served. After dinner, we will walk back to the hotel to enjoy a peaceful evening.

DAY 7 – FRIDAY (Grand Tour of Athens and Cape Sounion)

We will all meet for an early breakfast and then go on a private luxury bus tour. We start our guided tour of Athens, with a visit to the Parthenon, the Acropolis Museum, and its masterpieces. We will learn about Mars Hill – Ancient High Court connected with St. Paul and his speech to the Athenians. We will enjoy a comfortable drive in the heart of the Greek Capital, to visit the stadium of the first modern Olympic Games of 1896 and to get to know “Syntagma;” the Constitution Square with the Parliament and the traditionally dressed “Evzones”. We will see monuments of the 19th Century, like the Academy of Athens, the first Modern Greek University and the marble National Library. The tour will also take us to the Temple of Zeus and the Arch of Hadrian and so much more. In the afternoon we will drive to Cape Sounion, following the beautiful coastal road along the Aegean Sea. We will see the beautiful southern suburbs, know as the “Athens Riviera” and learn about the long history of the Greek Islands. We will arrive at Cape Sounion to visit the wonderful Temple of Poseidon, God of the seas. The view from the 2500 years old shrine is superb. Cape Sounion is also known to have the most beautiful sunset in Greece.
